Raul E. Perez, M.D., is the President and a Managing Director of Oakwood Medical Investors. Dr. Perez received his undergraduate degree from St. Louis University and his M.D. degree from University UAG in Mexico, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (at the Maryland General Hospital), and completed four years of post-graduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Perez is a board certified OB/GYN and a Diplomat of the Board of American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Perez practiced medicine for 19 years in private practice through July 2000. Dr. Perez currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for EndoStim, Inc. He was also a director of Miravant Medical Technologies (formerly known as PDT, Inc.), a publicly traded biomedical company from 1992 to 1999, and was formerly an advisory director of Computer Motion, Inc., a publicly-traded medical device company which merged with Intuitive Surgical, Inc. In addition, Dr. Perez is a successful entrepreneur having co-founded Orion Medical Services, Inc. to develop, manufacture and market a compact portable home monitoring system for the detection of uterine contractions in high risk pregnant women. Orion was sold in April 1991 to Baxter International, Inc.
Daniel A. Burkhardt is a Managing Director of Oakwood Medical Investors. From 1980 to 2005, Mr. Burkhardt was a general partner of The Jones Financial Companies, L.L.L.P., the parent company of Edward D. Jones & Co., L.P., where he specialized in investment banking and structuring investments. In addition to his involvement with the previous Oakwood funds. Mr. Burkhardt served as President, Treasurer and Director of CIP Management, Inc. and as general partner of CIP Management, L.P., LLLP for over 16 years, retiring from such positions in 2006. Mr. Burkhardt also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, a premier plant genomics research center based in St. Louis, Missouri.
James L. Nouss, Jr., Esq., is a Director of Oakwood Medical Investors and a partner with the law firm of Bryan Cave LLP where he is a member of the Corporate Finance and Securities Client Service Group and serves as a member of its Executive Committee. Mr. Nouss received a B.A. degree with Honors in Economics from the University of Missouri - Columbia in 1976 and a J.D. degree from Georgetown University in 1979. Mr. Nouss concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. His practice focuses on the representation of underwriters and issuers in public and private offerings of securities, including venture capital and initial public offerings. Mr. Nouss’s clients have included companies in public utilities, medical technology, telecommunications, health care and manufacturing. Mr. Nouss has served as legal counsel to the previous Oakwood funds, the RGRJ Venture funds and the Community Investment Partners funds in their formation and portfolio investments.
Jason A. Darrah is the Director of Research for Oakwood Medical Investors. Jason joined Oakwood in October 2000. Mr. Darrah is responsible for identifying new investment opportunities, conducting research and due diligence, monitoring existing investments, and managing the administrative functions of the fund. Prior to joining Oakwood, Mr. Darrah was a founding member and a financial analyst in the Health Care Investment Banking Group at A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. In this position, Mr. Darrah worked on a variety of transactions including public offerings, private placements, mergers and acquisitions, and advisory services. Mr. Darrah received a B.A. degree, cum laude, in Economics from Wheaton College in 1995.
